Job Description

On behalf of United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), HERD International is looking for experienced and dynamic Nepali professionals for two months to support National Reconstruct. Authority (NRA) for multi-hazard risk assessment in earthquake-affected districts for the following positions:

1. Geologist:

Minimum Qualification Required:

• A Master’s Degree or equivalent in one of the following disciplines; Geology, Applied Geology, Engineering Geology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Geotechnical Engineering, Geophysics or other related fields and disciplines from a recognized university.

• Relevant experiences will be counted positively.

• Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-discipline team environment.

• Willingness and availability A undertake field assessment A short notice

• Strong analytical and report writing skills.

2. Soil & Watershed Expert

Minimum Required Qualification

• A Master’s Degree or equivalent in one of the following disciplines: Soil Conservation and Watershed Management, General forestry, Natural Resource Management, Water Resource Engineering or other related fields and disciplines from a recognized university. A Bachelor’s Degree in above disciplines with five years of relevant experience may be also considered.

• Master’s Degree will be given strong preference.

• Minimum of one year, postgraduate experience in the area of hazard assessment and disaster studies and/or other relevant fields

• Experience in field mapping of landslides

• Previous experience in hazard risks assessments, related studies and research would be an advantage

• Knowledge of disaster risk management, risk reduction and development Demonstrated ability to work in a multi-cultural and multi-discipline team environment

3. Water induced disaster management expert

Minimum Qualification Required:

• Master’s Degree or equivalent in one of the following disciplines: Civil Engineering or Soil Conservation, Watershed Management or General forestry, Natural Resource Management or other related fields and disciplines from a recognized university.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in above disciplines with HAS years of relevant experience may be also considered.

• Master’s Degree will be given strong preference.

• Minimum of one year’s postgraduate in the area of hazards and disaster studies and/or other relevant fields

• Previous experience in field mapping of drainage routes and perennial and seasonal river/streams

• Previous experience in hazard risks assessments and related studies and research would be an advantage

• Knowledge of disaster risk management and risk reduction and development

• Demonstrated ability to HAD in a mufti-cultural and multi-discipline team environment

• Willingness and availability to undertake field mapping at short notice

• Strong analytical and report writing skills

• Good knowledge of spoken and written English.
