Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusamrnenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as a federal Interprise, supports the German Government in achieving its objectives in the field of international cooperation for sustainable development. GIZ invites applications !rpm suitable and qualified professionals for its Civil Peace Service (ZFD) Program. The Civil Peace Service supports projects aimed at non-violent conflict transformation in various countries worldwide and includes a strategic focus on Local Peace Structures. To this end. ZFD works in coordination with a number of stakeholders to help build their capacities in dialogue. ZFD Nepal is looking for a local peace advisor to he; support local partners.

Position: Peace Advisor

Duty Station: Kathmandu with frequent travels to other districts (mainly Terai)

Duration: 18 months with possibility of extension

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to partners in project management of dialogue projects
  • Maintain communication and relationships with partners and other stakeholders at the regional/local level
  • Support in providing technical support and capacity building to partners in conflict transformation and dialogue project work
  • Contribute local expertise in order to ensure that project work is applicable in the local context
  • Support research and regular analysis with partners to support current dialogue work and explore further opportunities in the region
  • Support design of training and co-facilitate in conflict transformation and dialogue facilitation
  • Provide capacity building to partners in project planning, monitoring, report writing and knowledge management
  • Develop and strengthen networks of peace actors at the district and regional levels
  • Contribute to project strategy and activity planning and overall project management
  • Communicate ZFD strategic priorities to partners
  • Assist with Nepali-English translation and interpretation and provide logistical support for field visits
  • Perform further tasks as defined during project planning and carry out other responsibilities as required
  • Work closely with the international peace advisor in all areas of work

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, preferal-4 with academic background in Peace and Conflict Studies
  • 3 years of relevant work experience including experience working in the Terai, preferably in implementing peace building projects
  • At least 2 years’ experience in project management including PME, activity planning and budgeting and working with multiple partners
  • Experience and skill in designing and conducting trainings and in facilitating workshops with various stakeholders
  • Experience in working with political actors, civil society leaders, local government officials and other stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of Terai context; knowledge of local Terai languages will be an advantage Knowledge of understanding of peace needs and peace building work in Nepal is an asset
  • Experience of organizational development, including documentation and knowledge management
  • Solid command of English and Nepali language with translation experience
  • Strong aptitude for research and analysis including experience and skills in conflict analysis
  • Strong self-initiative and structured working style
  • Ability to critically assess project design and integrate lessons learned:
  • ability to work in a thorough and results-oriented fashion Strong interpersonal communication skills and professional presentation
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with people from different backgrounds
  • Ability to maintain impartiality when working with actors holding a variety of political affiliations
  • High level of commitment to non-violent peace and conflict work
