In Nepal, UN Women is currently implementing its 2014-17 Strategic Plan and developing a new Strategic Plan for the period 2018-2022. The focus programme areas of UN Women Nepal are women’s economic empowerment, inclusive governance, ending violence against women and girls, and women, peace and security, disaster risk reduction and humanitarian action. Job Title: Programme Specialist (Economic Empowerment)

Duty Station: Kathmandu Contact type and level: Fixed-Term (NO-C)

Duration: 1 year with possibility of extension

Key responsibilities: Reporting to Unit Manager (Economic Empowerment Unit), the Programme Specialist exercises overall responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing UN Women interventions under his/her portfolio. She/he works in close collaboration with the programme and operations team, UN Women HQ staff, Government officials, multi and bi-lateral donors and civil society ensuring successful UN Women programme implementation under portfolio.

Required qualification and experience: Master’s degree or equivalent in economics, social sciences, human rights, gender/women’s studies, international development, or a related field is required. At least 5 years of progressively responsible work experience at the national or international level in design, planning implementation, monitoring and evaluation of development projects. Technical experience in macroeconomic analysis, gender and human rights of women, specifically in the areas of women’s economic empowerment. Proven experience in producing analytical research work is preferred. Experience coordinating and liaising with government agencies and/or donors is an asset. Experience working in the UN System is an asset. Experience in leading/managing a team is an asset.
